Our Bases
All of our bases are named for influential women in my life that helped make me who I am today, making Wandering Farms possible.
When I began my journey to total yarn snobbery I knew I vastly preferred the uniqueness of hand dyed yarn, but struggled to find the variety I was looking for in a bases for different projects. So I have a fair amount of bases to choose from- if you find one you like, throw it in the search bar and it will bring up any colors we have in stock. If you can't find what you are looking for- feel free to reach out, I'm generally happy to throw in a request in the next planned dye batch.

Fingering/Sock Weight Bases- Approx 400m/437 yards per 100 gm skein
Lola Jane has a natural, simplistic beauty. This 100% organic wool is toasty warm with a crisp structure and delightful softness.

Emily- This wonderfully even and round 4 ply fingering yarn is spun from 100% fine superwash merino wool. Super soft, exceptionally vibrant colors, and incredibly easy to work with this is an easy go-to yarn.

MaryAnn- A very soft and lustrous single ply yarn with a loose twist, resulting in a velvety texture with slight variations in thickness. It is perfect for shawls and cowls where the silk content gives the items sheen and drape with the silk reflecting the light to give a lustrous finish.

Jo- Extra-fine wool blended with Royal alpaca, one of the finest fibers available, makes for a luxuriously soft yarn, with excellent structure and insulation. A touch of Mulberry Silk adds luster and soaks up color brilliantly, bringing a beautiful richness to the dyed yarn.

Hortaine- A plump and lustrous yarn with beautiful drape. Baby alpaca for softness, tussah silk for sheen and linen for texture to produce a rustic yet luxurious yarn. The addition of linen gives this yarn great memory so it is ideal for lacework. Use for unstructured garments, throws, shawls and other lightweight accessories.

Twosy- Lovely squishable option made from extrafine merino wool. Twosy has a superior handfeel and great structure, spun with a touch of nylon to give it the perfect balance of strength and luxury

Evelyn- Evelyn is extremely soft and vibrant. This extra-fine superwash wool is one of the softest available. Mulberry Silk adds luster and takes dye beautifully. Cashmere adds softness and a rich feel to the yarn.

Alan- Alan is a soft and natural option. Spun with mulesing free 21.5 micron merino wool, this phenomenal wool is plain and simple, just as nature intended. The 4 ply construction makes it perfect for all kinds of knits, including sweaters, scarves, hats and cowls. Alan has excellent stitch definition and takes color very evenly making it a very versatile and reliable choice.

Jenn- A luxe Merino Cashmere Nylon blend with classic superwash extra fine merino blended with a touch of recycled nylon for durability and of course cashmere for heavenly softness. Perfect for accessories, sweaters, and oh-so-soft socks.

Lauren- has a little more zest than a typical superwash yarn. This yarn blends fine superwash wool with luxe baby alpaca fibre. It has softness and structure from wool, with an awesome hand feel and extra warmth thanks to the natural luxury of baby alpaca fibre.

The crisp structure of Andean Highland wool makes this yarn puffy and light, delightfully chunky without the weight. This quick-knitting yarn displays a beautiful pop of color with each satisfying stitch. Tundra has great volume that makes it super cozy.
